Two surfaces blending into one

Hello, I’ve been cracking my head on this, approached with the 2 rail sweep and the curve network but can’t seem to find a clean way to do the middle part, where the two tentacles become one.

Curious what the proper way would be.

Somehting else, I never worked with T splines, would this be the ideal job for it?
