Turning solids in stacks of paper

I am trying to render what looks like a book carved in stone. I made good progress by creating a rectangular solid then using the shell command to make a book binding. Then I filled the book cover with another solid where the pages would be. I tried the divide command to make the inner solid look like paper but can’t seem to divide the solid into what looks like sheets of paper. Is there an easy way to make a solid look like it is a stack of thin planes?
