Hi! So i want to make a roof using form finding, i made the roof geometry and everyhing “works” but the edges look odd, why does this happen? how does form finding apply to this? I can share the script if you’d like!
Kangaroo isn’t the only way to create roofs like that.
P.S. This is cool. A variable-thickness roof for the chapel:
Okay its close enough but i need to make it in an elliptical shape. pleeease please help me
also i need to use kangaroo to prove its a form finding geometry
Do you mean you have seen a similar form in a project somewhere that you believe was form-found, and you want to replicate that process? If so it would help to provide info about what this was.
Form finding is a fairly broad term and covers several different techniques.
Some common ones which Kangaroo can be used for are
- inverted funicular/hanging chain relaxation to find shell shapes/vaults which can act in pure compression.
- Tensile relaxation for membranes or cable nets.
- Bending relaxation of uniform grids for simple push-up type bending-active gridshells
Your image doesn’t look like it fits the shape that would result from any of these. There are other types of form-finding possible, but you need to think about what it is you want to achieve.

The first file is the shaoe i want to achieve but the mesh isnt continous and the material we are using to built it requires the mesh to be continoues, the second file is me trying to make a better mesh from a rectangle and make it into ellipse but i can’t make the shape from the first file
