Trim tool - select area to keep

When using the trim tool, it seems that you can only select the areas of the surface to remove. Is there an option that allows you to click on an area to keep? For example, if trimming an array of holes through a surface, it would be nice if you could just click on the area to keep rather than having to select all of the holes to remove.

If there is an option, I’ve missed it. If there isn’t, it would be nice to have.

No such option, but I think there should be.

The workaround is to pre-select the surface and run split command. When done splitting then select the part you want to keep and run undo delete paste (ctrl Z X V)
