Transparent Images

Hey folks. When you bring in a jpg image with the Picture Frame command, is there any way to have it be transparent so that light can shine through it when you’re rendering? (I have an image of a stained glass window that I want to position in my 3d model of a window that I want light to come through.) Thank you.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Cosmas - you can fake it to some extent with an emissive material, but I don’t think there is a way to cast the colors into the scene. There used to be an experimental thin translucent material available that might, or might not, have been useful here but if it is still there I do not see it.

Here you can see an emissive channel on the material kind of works but the light cast is not patterned, I think it is an average of the colors or something-

There may be a better way but I am not seeing it at the moment…

You should be able to do that with lower opacity in use:

This works also with PNGs that have an alpha channel

addendum: here a quick one with a stained glass image as texture
