transition between a scanned relief and a circular coin base
Hi everyone,
I am designing an 80mm diameter coin for 3D printing. As a starting point, I’m using a 3D scan of a small relief/sculpture, which I have scaled down and compressed along the Z-axis to fit the coin’s profile.
I’ve run into two main issues:
- The scanned geometry is rectangular and does not cover the full circular area of the coin.
- The organic, rough texture of the scan contrasts too sharply with the perfectly smooth surface of the coin base.
I would like to create a gradual transition where the texture in the center slowly fades or “melts” into the flat surface of the coin as it reaches the edges.
What would be the best workflow in Rhino or Grasshopper to achieve this “falloff” effect and blend the two surfaces seamlessly?
Thanks in advance for your help!
