Toolbars seem to lose Icon and show text

I noticed another issue with the MRU toolbar. I notice that the toolbar sometimes (and it seems randomly) converts the icon images to text when the beta is closed and re-opened. You can see it here:

I have not seen a single time where this doesn’t happen to at least one icon. With subsequent opening and closing of the beta the images never come back.

Thanks,

Dan

@DanBayn are you on the very latest BETA release?

Hi Gijs,

Yes, I just updated this morning and tried again. Here is what I saw just now:

As I keep running commands, the command icons gradually disappear and leave only text… Also, Shift + Right-clicking doesn’t seem to work either.

9.0.26216.12303, 2026-08-04

Are this buttons the are switching, also the buttons that you are clicking on? Or does the switch seem to be unrelated to which command you are running?

This sounds a bit like what @DanBayn was complaining about with the MRU toolbar in another thread. Rhino beta: MRU toolbar doesn't seem to work - #4 by DanBayn

Moved this to its own thread so we can work thru it.

Is there any toolbar editing hapening before closing Rhino? Or just open, work and close?

Also, if you edit the button can you still see the icon listed?

Trying to figure out how to recreate the problem here.

This is fixed in the last beta from Tuesday. Please update and give it a try.

Hi Scott,

I installed the release you gave me but I still see the issue with the MRU toolbar. I ran a bunch of commands, grabbed a screenshot of the MRU toolbar, closed the beta, and re-opened it. Here is what it looked like:

The toolbar on the left is what it looked like before I closed the beta, and the toolbar on the right is how it looked when I opened the beta immediately after closing.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi,

Last week everything seemed OK, or at least I didn’t notice this issue. However, with this week’s build (04.08), I am now seeing the “icons changing to text” issue.

In my Rhino UI, I have only one toolbar that comes from the default RUI. That is the only toolbar affected. All of my other toolbars come from my own custom RUI and are not affected.

I have also noticed what appears to be a separate issue: as far as I have tested, none of the command icons (default + custom) respond to the Shift key + RC, so it is kind of hard to edit the commands represented by the icons.

This is going into this weeks build, I thought it made it into last weeks sorry.

Do you mean right now you have no way to edit the toolbar buttons? I know I saw that last week, but a restart of Rhino fixed that. In your case it is stuck like that?

Ctrl + Shift + Left click works, Ctrl + Right click does not in the current build

Same here:

I have the same problem of text replacing images, and not having chance to recover them.

I think we have this fixed. I am PM you with a build that should fix it. Please install and give it a try.

@scottd

I installed version 9.0.26218.6303 (2026-08-06), but the issue still persists upon startup. On top of that, I’m now suddenly getting a plugin error (FlairSDKHarness.rhp) during launch, which didn’t happen before.

Fortunately, Shift + Right-click is working again so I can access the Edit menu, but importing previously saved SVGs still doesn’t apply. Also, while I happen to have saved image files for my icons, I think standard users will definitely need an Icon Restore feature.

Yeah, thanks Scott but I using a Mac version.

Can you run OptionsExport and drop the .rhs here please?

I’ll take a look and see if I can reproduce. I can’t seem to with a fresh Rhino.
