Hi everybody,

I just downloaded and tried the new Rhino 9 Beta… and it took me 1-2 min to dismiss it.

A toolbar (RUI file) was loaded and I wanted to close it, so I navigated to Window \> Toolbars and Macros. The dialog I got is so much unintuitive… I didn’t know where to start.

First of all I saw the toolbar in question with a (Needs Permission) tag. What the hell does that mean and how to grant it? Ok, I found it then: Right Click.. ok. Still I have no idea what “permission” I granted.

But then I wanted to close it and there is just no way to close it. Under File \> Close RUI file is greyed out. Tja… what now McNeel? Same with default.rui. I am not able to close it? WTF

All in all a disappointing start with Rhino 9 Beta

greetins, Tobias

Hi Tobias,

The “Needs Permission” tag is about the file format, not access rights. It means the RUI file was saved by Rhino 7 or earlier, so editing it in 9 will upgrade it to a format Rhino 7 can’t open. I agree this needs better messaging.

[RH-99541](https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-99541) Toolbars: “Needs Permission” label is unclear

I might need more info to narrow this down. Where is the Rui saved? is this from a plugin?

Hi Japhy, thanks for your answer.

The RUI is from Rhino 7 and is part of a plugin created with the script compiler.
It’s saved to AppData/Roaming… it should be possible to turn that off.

But even the default.rui the close option is greyed out. So there is something wrong anyway.

I discussed this this afternoon with @CallumSykes and that limitation will be removed. He said currently this is disabled for default.rui and plugin rui’s.

[RH-99585](https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-99585) default.rui and plugin rui’s can’t be closed
