Texture files going missing

Hello,
C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Temp\McNeel\Rhino\V7\TextureCache*.jpg
These texture images are being cleared when I close Rhino and I don’t have “save textures” checked.
I always use Vray materials grass, wood, etc. or Vray generic.
I substituted "
*" since the list is long.
Appear as white surfaces in Rhino viewport, but they render correct in Vray or Vray viewport.
If I save file with “save textures” the file size is enormous, 50MB, same file with that off is 13MB.
Help please on what to do?
Thanks,
Glenn

Hi Glenn - is the problem that the objects do not show materials in the Rhino viewport?

-Pascal

HI Pascal,
Yes that is the problem.
But it is not all objects, only certain Vray materials like wood, grass, soil.
metal, and Generic Vray materials that I add bitmap or modify color are fine.
When I start Rhino and open a file that I didn’t “Save Textures” this happens.
Why would the material image go missing?
thanks,
Glenn
P.s. the other issue is why does saving textures make the file size so large, from 13MB (with save textures off) to 50MB with save textures on.
P.s.2 here are 3 screen grabs, sorry due to NDA I can’t display the rest of the model.

p.s.3 thanks for the fast reply & your assistance.

@pascal I posted at Vray Rhino as well, see below
Thanks,
Glenn
p.s. you might have missed my reply to your post on 4/23/21.
Rhino “Save Textures” & file size - Chaos Forums (chaosgroup.com)
“Can you try opening your files with the File > Open option in Rhino and see if textures get lost like that?
Testing on our end, we could only reproduce such an issue if the files were opened by double-clicking on the .3dm file. We’ve logged this under VRW-3205 so our developers can have a look, but meanwhile you can use the other option as a workaround. We’ll let you know when there are any updates on the matter.”

Hello -

I’m having similar problems to those described in this thread - when opening a file textures go missing from the temp folder described by the original poster.

When I open from file>open instead of a double click, some of the missing textures are fixed, but some of the missing link errors remain.

When I click continue to open the file, and I look at the materials in question, all of the links appear correct. The scene appears to render correctly.

Has there been any progress on this issue?

Thanks all,

Hello- is the context also Vray in this case?
