Text (re)alignment, V7 vs V5 (and a V8 wish?)

When I’m trying to realign text in V7 - usually single line, but sometimes multi-line - there seems to be a grip missing that was present in V5. Namely, when I select the text then try to Move it, in V5 there’s a grip that’s aligned on the text baseline, usually somehwere further out to the left than the other grips. It doesn’t show up with points on, but it’s there. That’s great for putting lines of text back onto a common baseline. In V7, no matter what I try, no matter how the text is justified, there’s no such grip.

Getting Text’s back into line in V7 is a pain without this as descenders, brackets etc mess around with the grips that are available, relative to baseline.

Am I missing something? If not, can I make the reinstatement of the V5-style grip a wish for V8?

Hi Matt -
So far, I’m not seeing that v5 grip that doesn’t show up with points on. How do I trigger that?

In V5, left hand end of single line text, I’m offered 3 grips. One at the top:

One at the bottom. Note that both this one and the previous are perfectly in line with the text stroke. Great for alignment:

And the useful one, right on the text baseline. In fact, the green line you see was drawn by using this snap (beforehand):

In V7, I’m offered a rather less useful selection. One at the top. Well, sort of:

and one at the bottom. Similar displacement, brought about by a comma (in Y axis) further along the line of text and lord-knows what in the X-axis:

and for the third - well, there is no third choice. Go fishing around for that baseline grip. It’s not there…

Hi Matt -
Here, in v7, with bottom-aligned text, the main grip appears to be the one that you want:

Thanks Wim.
Do you know what might be causing the grip to be displaced in X on mine? It looks as though it’s well aligned with the ‘W’ in your screenshot.

Still not aligned completely left with a narrow character like an “I”
