Text and dimension masks

For both dimension and text masks I would love to have control the margin (already there for text), the opacity, mask corner radius, and feather if we are getting fancy

Could text and dimension masks get a little streamlining (I know, I just asked for more as well as a streamline, but I feel it is possible  )?

Text mask is a bit better, but I wonder if there is a way to set the default color and margin when editing in the properties window, as that is always several extra clicks for me. Perhaps it could just remember the last settings used? I know it does when a text mask is applied when first creating the text, but when editing text in the properties window defaulting to the last used text mask setting would save some clicks. And out of curiosity, what units is the margin? Percentage of the text bounding box height?

Dimension text mask on the other hand take (if I counted right) nine clicks to override. That is a lot. Again, having it remember the last override would help a lot, so as soon as I click the override check everything else is plugged in. Additionally, if an override hasn’t been preformed yet, I think it is safe to assume if the dim style doesn’t have a mask assigned, and I choose to override, I want to show the mask and for it to have a color, so show mask could be checked as well as color source. Same deal with selecting the color radio button, if I select that, then I am overriding the color, so I shouldn’t have to check the color check.

Thanks,
Sam

Thanks for the write-up. I’ll see what we can do.
The margin for text masks is a multiple of the text height.

@SamPage I am reviving this because I’m reviewing a YouTrack issue with the exact same words in it.

I’ve added three separate wishes for this:
RH-35615, RH-35616, RH-35617

Now that RText (soon to replace Text) supports Annotation Styles, it’s possible to set up an Annotation Style with text masks the way you want. Then, if you set the default annotation style in Options, every piece of text you create will have the same mask. Does that solve this issue?

It seems like overall you’d save a lot of clicks by having a different annotation style that defines the masks you want, and just selecting that style when you create the dimension or text.

Does that work for you, or do you regularly have different mask settings for every piece of text or dimension?

RH-35616 is fixed in Rhino WIP
