Dear Community!
Hope my “german English” is understandable.
I am in need of Templates for mpdelling an orchesta (Musical Instruments).
For example violine
Can you recommend a Template side?
Or are there free Templates anywhere?
Thank you for your time and help in advanced!!
Best regards from vienna,
Daniel
Hi @DantheMan
Musical instruments are fairly complex objects, and I reckon most of them takes highly specialized skills to model correctly. What is your end goal? Maybe you would be better off downloading 3d models from the web and using those - at least as a reference.
I’m not quite sure what you mean by templates for modelling instruments. Rhino templates merely contain info on things like tolerances, units, layer preferences, annotation scale etc. There’s no provision for template suited for violins, trompets or cellos.
If you are looking to download 3D models, 3D Warehouse has lots! Here are the violins

Dear Jakob, thank you very much for your answer and Suggestions.
I need to model “not in any detail” Classic instruments as an working request from my emplyer, regarding changed regulations.
The Instruments exist physically and is there a Scanner or sth to model those from a real model?
Hi @DantheMan
Well, there are plenty of scanners out there, but 3D scanning and scanners are a highly specialized and expensive area. Depending on just how many instruments yo have to scan and how much time you are willing/allowed to spend, you can get quite good result using one of the many photogrammetry based scanners out there. It’s basically a matter of taking a lot of photos and letting a cloud based algorithm sort out the 3D shape, based on your photos. The learning curve can be a bit steep, depending on your previous experience with 3D in general. The best (free) solution I’ve come across so far is Realityscan, but I must admit that it’s been a while since I used it - mostly because we haven’t needed it lately. The resolution is not super impressive, but for your use, it might just be enough. Alternatively, check out if there’s a local shop/business that does 3D scanning and have them give you a quote. I have no idea of the pricing in Germany, but here in Denmark, at least, it’ll cost you a pretty Dollar (or Euro, rather). The newest (beta)version of iRhino lets you access Apple’s 3D scanning API, but I believe it’s mainly for scanning rooms, not objects (and requires an iPhone or iPad with a LIDAR, and that’s above my paygrade ).

PS Here are a few of the objects I’ve scanned with Realityscan. Each object took ~1 hour to scan plus another hour or two of cleaning it up in Rhino (These are the non-cleaned up versions): Jakob.Normand - Sketchfab
