Tag and List Panel Profiles?

Hello friends, I am detailing the structure as shown, which is constructed by many coplanar panels/beams. I probably will need to label each beam and put a profile of it as a 2d curve. Is there a component or plugin specialized for this task? And a step further up, if there is anything that can help with the dimensioning, that would be even better, thanks in advance!

For every member you can extract a front or back face as they represent the 2D outline you need—same as using a longitudinal intersection of your solids. For bounding dimensions, every face/outline can be placed inside a rectangle (flat bounding box), and you can get/display the line dimensions of the rectangle’s sides (wireframe). For other specific dimensions you’d have to target/extract edges, arcs, angles, etc., depending on what’s needed. To “tag and list”, if objects are sorted consecutively, you can add text tags (basic labeling) at points/planes on the objects.

If you post a file it’s easier to get help so others don’t have to replicate based on your image.

Cheers

Hi Rene, yes please see attached. My biggest concern is that if the structure needs to change can we get the label and profile stuff updated without going through them one by one. Below is a snapshot I came across.

profile test.3dm (2.1 MB)

Haha your screenshot kept making me think that was a different project but I opened your file and got the shapes from your original post :+1:

Check this, I left some notes:
3D-to-2D part orienting.gh (252.2 KB)

Summary:
As mentioned before, once you have a ‘2D’ section, a proper source plane, and parts are sorted consecutively (or whichever order you need), you’re good to go.

Note:
I didn’t add any measurements as I’m not sure what exactly you need to dimension. Please advice with a sketch or follow this:

Super straightforward and easy to follow with all the notes, I learned many new components and started to feel guilty for not paying to view this. You are a legend.
