Seems like the only forum left for T-Splines is here. I’m trying to merge these edges with symmetry from a learning video.
and always get this result . Can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Can anyone help?T-Splines Plane for web.3dm (2.2 MB)I would approach this a different way.
Start with the loop of edges around the hole in the legs. Alt-drag those out towards the centerline and weld the four verts once you have them close enough at the centre/symmetry line.
On my phone right now, but I’ll look at your file once I’m in my office

OK - so first fix was to do the what I suggested above - the plane welded up perfectly with the hole edges extruded to the centre and welded.
With your pipe the whole model would loss symmetry when welded to the hole verts - that got me thinking and I rotated your pipe 180 deg in Z - and everything welded up fine. The symmetry of you pipe was the opposite direction to the rest of the model.
Both solutions attached.

Uploading: T-Splines Plane for web - with pipe rotated 180 and excess points welded.3dm…
Thank you so much for your help. I’ll try your solutions later on tonight. I did do this exercise a few months ago and it worked just fine then. It looks like your 3dm file did not finish uploading, because I can’t download it, while the one I uploaded works fine. Would love to see it. Thanks again
I tried rotating the pipe and it worked in “Box” mode, but had strange pulling in Smooth Toggle. Tried going around and seeing if there were any overlapping points to wield, but I couldn’t fix it. Something is different then the file I did a few months ago (probably the pipe cylinder) Old version
today revolved 180 degrees in box mode Now same in Smooth Toggle Second viewHi, I grabbed your original file and welded the points, I had the same issue and found the other side wasn’t welded correctly and showed overlapping points. I saved both the original file and the correctly welded file so you can see. Put both in box mode and try to select a point of the seam and you’ll see that there are 2 points for each corner.

Thank you so much. Really appreciate it. Will look at the files when I get home.
I took a quick look at the files you uploaded. Thanks . I don’t understand why the plane turned Pink? and I can’t change the color by layer or object color. Also, when highlighting it looks partially transparent. No Naked Edges or Bad Object.
Pretty sure it means that some action has caused symmetry to be lost in everything that is pink.
When this happens to me I usually cancel symmetry for the whole object and then use the discovery option for symmetry to get it back. This worked in the case of your file.
Thank you sochin . You’ve helped me before.
You are welcome @Et_Rec
wow. I have same problem here in 2022. I try to figure it out.
Have you tried subd in v7?
I think you’ll find it a lot more stable than Tsplines was.
Hi Kyle,
Not yet. I should start. I was wondering why “ loss symmetry happened ” in this particular topic, while the tutorial author did this step successfully. I ignored this step when I learnt this tutorial several years ago.
chalk it up to the general unstable nature of tsplines… stuff like that happens all the time. Creases, star points, symmetry all fairly fragile.
Try SubD in v7… I think you’ll see it’s a lot more stable. (like a looooot) Especially if you are using anything but the very very last version of tsplines which was decently stable.
Definitely. Thank you, Kyle.
