I have seen this before and just wondered what the logic is ?

The first one maintains the angle relation between rail and cross section (in my case 133.2°). So does the second one, only this time the angle is 90°. When it reaches the kink it automatically finds the median value between the two. In this case, where the two halves are symmetrical, the result is tangent to the cross section on the opposite end.
