SVG export - Only selected objects option always re-checked

This option in the SVG Export/Print dialog keeps resetting it self to checked every time I open a new file. I even opened a template file, made a test print with the setting unchecked and then re-saved the template, but every time I open a new file based on that template or anything else, the option is checked again.

Hi Mitch -

You are describing two different ways of dealing with settings: an application setting and a document setting. I can’t tell from your post if you expect both to happen or if you want one of those.

FWIW, my personal strong opinion is that all those print settings should be document settings.

What I’m saying is that neither works to stay sticky. You are experiencing something different?

I haven’t had a chance to look. I need to know what the expected behavior is before I start filing things.

The expected behavior is that if I uncheck it, it stays unchecked… I’ll let you test on your end to see is this isn’t just another anomaly that’s happening locally on my machine.

Are you running export or save to create an SVG? This option probably should not exist for SVG in general as it is really intended for printing. The checkbox could be implied for SVG as Export is intended for selected objects while Save is for all objects.

OK, that perhaps explains it - I am using Export. The problem is that using a locked, no print outline square of 48x48, Extents (so that it snaps to the square) and 1:1 - if Only Selected is checked, as the square is not among the objects selected to be exported, the position of the objects within the square changes (it centers around the bounding box of the selected objects instead of the square).

I will try working with Print I guess…

Looking at this again - yes, it’s necessary to use Export (selected), as I have other stuff in the file on off layers that I don’t want to be in the SVG.

Except there is no Print to SVG option like I thought there might be… SaveAs doesn’t work as there is no option for a custom page size and the Scale 1:1 is obviously wrong - it gets tiny because it thinks the page is huge.

So back to Export and the original problem remains… Worse, now having tried SaveAs, going back to Export the SVG is also now the wrong size at 1:1… Had to restart Rhino to fix it.
