Surface from network of curves

Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to model a custom wing nut and have created a wireframe with the curves that I think are needed to explain the surface:

JAWingnut.3dm (44.9 KB)

I’ve tried NetworkSrf but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m not sure if I’m missing something. Please let me know if you can help.

Thanks

J

That combination of open and closed curves do not meet the curve input requirements for the command.
Start by looking at the Help file article so you can see what is required.

Additionally, I don’t think NetworkSrf is an appropriate command for the partially defined shape your curves imply.

This is not a good shape to use as a tutorial for learning Rhino surface modeling.
I’d recommend going through a progressive set of tutorials like the User’s Guide to gain some understanding of surface modeling.
Then with that under your belt, apply those techniques to this shape.

My guess is you’ll end up using a combination of rail sweeps and Blends.

Cheers

Thanks John

Hi Joearm,

indeed it’s not a beginner friendly shape. One of the most important things is to split up the surface into 4 sided patches which correspond to the overall shape. Than work your way form big patches to smaller ones.
