Surface Editing

Hi folks,
I’m trying to edit an existing surface to provide a more pillowed effect. What I’d like to do, (I think), is to simultaneously offset a selection of points within a 3D surface from their current location by the same distance, say .5 inches so they all offset normal to the current surface. I cannot seem to determine how to do this. I’ve attached the surface I’m working with. Can anyone advise?

You can turn the surface control points on and then use the move uvn command.
Select the points you want to move and adjust the N(normal) slider.
