Surface bending but by maintaining the edge length

Hello, I have this sheet of metal in red that needs to be bent from the edges, such that the edge length remains the same, but the sheet is bent. I need to do this since the red creates a draft extension, which is non-manufacturable for now. But if I bend the edes i can manufacture it and unfold it back into form.

I prefer a grasshopper direction because I have multiple panels like this. I have tried using the scale to length using contour lines, but the surface does not remain smooth.

I need the surface to bend, not just the curve. Since this is a 3D curve, if I bend the centre part, it will be impossible to get it back to shape. But the two ends I marked can be

Please clarify and illustrate/explain thoroughly what your end goal is :slight_smile:

These shapes have double curvature (not developable) which means when the shape is changed there will be some distortion: a combination of stretching, compressing and shearing. The details depend on the initial and final shapes, and the forming process. That’s how basic geometry works.

I also have been puzzling on your question some time. At last ended up in science on Mercatorprojection Gall-Petersprojection.
