Support for .webp in Picture command

Hi,

Are there plans or any existing ways to use the Picture command with .webp images? It seems more and more websites and browsers are switching to that format meaning that the images have to be converted before using them in Rhino.

Thank you for an outstanding product and community,

Pat

Sorry, “webp” is not a file format I’m familiar with, and I’m not finding anything by searching on the Rhino Web site either.

WebP is a relatively new image file format being developed by Google as a replacement for JPEG and PNG, it’s supposed to deliver similar quality but with smaller file sizes:

They have a BSD licensed library for working with the files:

Is there any update on this? 2024 pretty much every picture I download has this format

Yeah, it looks like google wants to unifiy image with one single format that have the advantages of all other formats.

We should support this format.
