SubD join command causes my file to freeze

Just as the title stated, as soon as I confirm my SubD join the program stops responding. My rhino is taking up 3,700MB of my memory while its frozen but idk if that information will help. I also am not able to open my tab using the taskbar. I have used SubD symmetry so that might be the cause because I forgot to remove symmetry before joining.
Here is an image of my file being frozen.

Are you planning on uploading a file?

well my rhino is frozen and I might have lost the progress lol, I will try to recreate it soon

Running the SystemInfo command and Rhino and posting the results will also be helpful. Thanks!

Here is the file, the parts are unjoined, I am trying to join the bottom third piece to the rest.

Update - removing the symmetry before joining fixes the problem, but it still might be nice to fix because I had to close my rhino from the task manager after the freeze.

I had same issue with symmetry option when I made a skull modell in subD

it’s just doing alot of processing but after 30 minutes the patience is gone for me

Maybe better for mcneel to have a look or just approuch subd differently

yep.. symmetry is the issue…

remove it and it joins fine.

I kind of use symmetry like I do history. I use it until I’m done with it, then I get rid of it to avoid any hassles.

Hi @shaun_c ,

Thanks for this report and the file. I dug deeper here and found that the issue was each SubD having a different reflection plane. Removing symmetry from one fixes the issue with the hang when joining. I’ve filed RH-86811 as well for future reference. I think we’ll need to pick which plane to maintain in a case like this one to avoid the bug. Incidentally, the plugin data in your file (Lumion live sync maybe) was also interfering with the SubD symmetry display here so I saved a version without plugin data to show the issue.

RH-86811 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 19 Release Candidate
