SubD in Block flat to smooth problem

SubD geometry in a block does not toggle from flat to smooth or vice versa, unless…

The only way to toggle the SubD inside the block is to open the block and toggle.

When a block is open, both the block SubD and the SubD which is not in the block toggle from flat to smooth and back.

I realized that when I bake a block while I’m in smooth mode, the block is baked in smooth mode. This way I don’t have to open the block and switch it there.
