I’m struggling modeling a form for a stylized neck. I tried lofts, Network Srf and Sweep 2 and I just can’t seem to control my form.
Attached is a screen shot of my neckform and a photo of what I would like to achieve. My biggest trouble area is the curvature from the chest & shoulders to the actual neck like part. How do I get all these curves to blend together?
I’m guessing I would start with a series of curves. Seem to make sense. But I hit a wall when it comes to turning those curves into a surface.
Hi Billy - I’d guess the ‘torso’ shape rolls over much more at the top, and that the shape that the neck/torso intersection is much deeper in front than in back. I’ll see if I can cook something up.
You are correct. From the ones I’ve seen in real life, the front is much deeper. The would be evidence of the back (where the form rolls over the shoulder towards the back. But it all rolls up into the neck.
I’m still fussing with it but just can’t figure it out. Looking forward to what you come up with.
Move the smaller circle curve up. Move the larger circle down to where the “shoulders” would proportionally be. Turn on points for that curve and use the gumball to move selected points down low for the front. Adjust these with the Grid Snap turned off and always work with the left/right pairs to avoid losing symmetry.
Select the two circle curves. Surface > Sweep 2 Rails and proceed to select the back, right, front and left Cross Section Curves. In the resulting dialog box, check Closed Sweep
Beautiful work Carter! Thank you for sharing. My attempt is not as clean and smooth as yours but I get the idea. It seems like I really need to pay attention to how my curves align which will ultimately control the end results. Point count and point alignment also seems to be a big part of how the form turns out.
I’ll keep practicing. I’m curious to see Pascals approach and if it’s similar or exactly the same as yours.
