STONEDALONE: Digitally Fabricated Future Talismans - Project by: Wynn Mustin

STONEDALONE is a collection of digitally fabricated “future talismans” that Wynn Mustin, M.F.A. Design + Technology Candidate, Class of 2016 at Parsons School of Design, is designing in Rhino as her masters thesis project.

Inspired by the metaphysical energy associated with natural crystal and mineral formations, Wynn is creating artificial neon crystals with playful and contemporary mystical properties through the use of derivative 3D printing techniques: building custom silicone molds from 3D prints she designed in Rhino, casting them in resin, and embedding additional 3D prints within the resin to create mesmerizing crystal inclusions that appear to be in a state of suspended animation.

In a world of user profiles and online accounts where you can be whoever you want to be, Wynn is billing herself as a “cyber mystic” capable of fabricating modern talismans on the build plate of my Makerbot Replicator 2.
