Splash screen... rhino taking 5 mins to open because of splash screen thing

No, actually that’s normal as you’re looking in the 32 bit Rhino V5 folder. Is that what you are using or is it the 64 bit version? The 32 bit version was named rhino4.exe for plug-in compatibility with Rhino V4 - that was necessary as Rhino V4 was also named rhino4.exe. But it’s not a problem.

If you are indeed using the 64 bit version of V5, then you are in the wrong folder. You need to look in Program Files, not Program Files (x86).

Why is this even there?
There’s About window and there’s McNeel website.(update: and emails, and forums, Jody Mills is doing her job well :stuck_out_tongue: ) :man_facepalming:

ah I found it. appols for being stupid on this stuff.

when i paste that in it goes like this… guess I am doing it wrong… pretty sure its the correct place though now which is a start. Being dyslexic doesnt help either. thanks,

Yep!

just run this (the batch inside i mean)
startRhino.7z (156 Bytes)

code of the batch:

start Rhino.exe -stopwatch

Oh and rename back your Rhino.exe file

Hi Robin - rename that to just Rhino.exe, then find a normal icon that starts Rhino, there is probably one on the desktop - right click on that and choose Properties:

In Properties, change the ‘Target’ so that it looks like this:

Then start Rhino with that icon, and once started, hit F2 and copy paste all the info from that window here…

I do not recommend creating shortcuts with launch options because as @brian can explain they get deleted or do wierd things. I have a thread opened on this topic.

Use batch. nice and quick

No, not quite. You need to find the desktop shortcut (make sure it’s the one for 64 bit), make a copy of it, and add the -stopwatch to that… then try running Rhino from that. Don’t rename Rhino.exe !

I hoping this means something to you guys… my tools paletes have all vanished though when it opened…!

Hi Robin thanks - - looks like the time is all here:

(103.1890) - Since Last Record = 100.8050 (%96.02) - after loading of cursor resources

I’ll see what I can find out.

Meantime,

Try ToolbarReset and then restart Rhino - is that better?

-Pascal

the splash screen came up and reverted back to normal screen thanks… totally thankful your out there to help me…

Hi Robin - something to try, starting with Rhino closed:

  1. Start RegEdit - Start menu > type ‘regedit’ and Enter, and say OK to the user account control message box.

  2. Find this key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0x64

  3. Right click on this and choose ‘Rename’. Set the name to “5.0x64_X”

  4. Start Rhino.

Is that any different?

If it is better, then please close Rhino, select the renamed key, and in the right click context menu, choose Export and zip and send us the result. If it is not better, please close Rhino. There will be a new key “5.0x64” in regedit. Select this key and delete it from the context menu, and then rename the old one back to “5.0x64” to restore things to how they were. There is another key we can try.

Do not touch anything else in RegEdit!

Any luck?

-Pascal

still took a while to open and page opened with the welcome to rhino at the side… but still huge pause before opening… sorry for being a pain…

i just changed my broad band to a new service provider its super fast but changed around couple days ago.

after opening and it not opening fast its pauses then flys open. dont understand the next part of what to do… cant seem to rename the folder back, cant find context menu not sure what that is?

Hi Robin - if there was no improvement, then in RegEdit right click on (to get the context menu) and delete the “5.0x64” key, then right click on the one renamed previously and choose Rename from the context menu that pops up from the right-click. Rename it back to “5.0x64”

Did that work?

-Pascal

done what you siad i think just waiting for rhino to open!

tools bars all vanished again…

could my new router box be stopping anything you think?

Hi Robin - sorry for the messiness here - ToolbarReset and restart Rhino should get the toolbars sorted one more time. I’ll ask the bigger brains about the lag - so far we seem to be spinning our wheels.

-Pascal

its the internet… i disconnected and it flys open now… mybe something on parental control blocking whatever communication its trying to make? all that for days and something stupid

Hi Robin - OK, thanks for that info.
