Solid union issues (not super innovative im aware)

i have three extrusions that im trying to cut into with another 6, but all it does is leave weird artifacting when i bake it (see figure 3. if that wasnt bad enough, my attempt to solid union the 3 main pieces (which are on the same plane) has some more weird artifacting (see figure 4)
