what happens in Rhino v4 ?
Left, solid => extrude planar curve,
Object has artifacts and poor geometry for editing.
Is this problem known ?

Sounds like crease splitting accidentally got turned off… It happens.
Type CreaseSplitting and set SplitAlongCreases to Yes.
To fix exising objects, use DivideAlongCreases.
