Snapshot doesn't support blocks?

Hi,

I have a big complex interior scene where I need to render different design versions. The scene contain a lot of blocks and I tried to save different Material Assignments of the blocks, but Snapshot doesn’t save/recall them. Please, could it be possible to get the material assignment within blocks working too? It would help a lot.

Best -
Micha

Hi Micha - my guess is, that is a hard one… How are you assigning materials, By Parent for the objects in the blocks, or explicitly changing the object material via BlockEdit?

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,

I assigned the Vray materials per block edit and direct assignment to the objects. (I must say I don’t understood the by parent function and never used it.)

Ciao,
Micha

Hi Micha - if objects inside a block are set ‘By parent’ for attributes, that means they will follow what happens to the top level block. In this case, material assignments with Rhino materials at least, are remembered and restored if the material is ByParent for the block object and the actual material is assigned to the top level instance. This might or might not be useful at all - for one thing, all block objects get the same material per instance.

Hi Pascal,

did I understand you right, the “by parent” function is designed for blocks and layers only?

And it doesn’t work for blocks like a train seat, where different parts of the seat are plastic, fabric and metal?

-Micha

Hi Micha - you understood, yes… in your case, with complex blocks, I think it is not helpful for materials, I was just trying to explain what it does since you said you did not know.

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,

thank you for the explanation, it helped me a lot. Could you set Snapshot block support at the wish list please? It’s so essential for complex scenes.

-Micha

Hi Micha - this is added as RH-51991.
Thanks,
