Slow performance/stuttering with large files while system load is low

Hi,

I’m using R7 and working on a quite heavy file (600 mb) and I’m experincing about 3 sec lag when I do basically anything. The CPU is at 6%, GPU goes up to 40% while doing a basic select object. Rotating an object stutters for three more seconds and then I can spin it without delay or stuttering. Memory usage is at 39%, file is save on my M2 SSD.

Hello - can you please disable Keyshot in Options > Plug-ins page, then close and restart Rhino - does that make any difference?
@jjn - please also see if it makes any difference to have panels, in particular Properties and/or BoxEdit open and on top - is selection faster if these are closed?

And, lastly, can you please try updating Rhino to the 7.5 release candidate?

You can get (7.5) by changing the ‘Update frequency’ in Options > Updates and Statistics page to ‘Service release candidate’

Hi Pascal,

I had to work from home today but I tried the file on my slower home computer and got the same problem. I did fix it by deselecting everything in the Display tab (Surface Edges, Tangent Edges, Tangent Seams and all the SubD stuff) and then switch it back on again!

Now it feels like normal again, no delay at all. I also discovered it was one particual part that’s causing the slowness, if I hid it (before display tab trick) everything went fast again.

Maybe you could send McNeel that particular part, or post it here?

Yeah I know that’d be great but I really can’t due to an NDA. :frowning:

Hello - thanks for the update! If you still have this object, can you export it and send to tech@mcneel.com? (that is confidential) Please include a link back here in your comments.

What was the display mode - if this happens again, can you, before you fix anything, export the mode from Options > View > DisplayModes page and send the resulting ini file?
