"Skylight shadow resolution scale dynamic" settings do not work

Hi,

I’m experiencing an issue where the shadows look too grainy during rotation for my liking. I tried adjusting the ‘SkylightShadowResolutionScaleDynamic’ to 1 within the advanced settings, but I don’t notice any difference at all between 1, 2, or even 4. I do not think this setting works on Mac?

The only way I’ve found to see significant improvement is by lowering the ‘Resolution Factor Dynamic’ to 2 using the _TestSSAOOptions command. However, these settings unfortunately do not persist between sessions.

Could someone advise me on how I can make these changes permanent, and why the ‘SkylightShadowResolutionScaleDynamic’ setting doesn’t seem to have any noticeable effect?

@Jeff maybe?

@DavidEranen would know more about this…

But for now, I would just create a macro like:

-_TestSSAOOptions o 2 enter

And stick in the startup section under the General settings (see pic). That will at least force the setting you want until some other mechanism can be provided.

Yes I can live with that, but I would prefer a more robust solution in the future. Thank you.

Hi @AMG,

Thanks for reporting this, I made a YT item: https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-83913.
The solution suggested by Jeff is a good workaround for Rhino 8.
