It might be too late, but when Rhino 6 ships, I wish it came with a default environment map, something immutable and internal to Rhino that could be chosen.
I find that environment maps can be useful for modeling as is shading. Sometimes, I wish I had one without copying it into the work folder–more than I care about its content.
For myself, I have renamed a given environment map environment.jpg, which I copy into most work folders, but…
…wouldn’t it be neat if there were a built-in option?
Hi Brenda - what application of environment map are you referring to here? the Emap command, Environments (panel), Environment maps in materials, Environment maps used in display modes…?
I was thinking about the kind of environment map that you would include as a material/shader on an object to impart a pseudo gloss to that object.
[Some time ago, I had also wrote another perhaps unrequested treatise about methods of abstracting materials from particular rendering engines, such as done in game editors.]
Hi Brenda - the simplest may be to add the one you like as a texture to your template file(s) for use in future projects. You can also point the Library panel to any folder you like and add these to ‘Favorites’
Hi Brenda - once the texture is in the Rhino file and the file saved, it’s in there when you send the file. I’m not sure if that addresses your comment or not…
