I wanted to share a frustrating experience I’m having with SimLab’s floating license system. I’ve been a customer since 2021, using their Rhino PDF Exporter 7. According to their policy, floating licenses must be installed on a “high reliability Windows machine”
Here’s my dilemma: As part of our IT maintenance and reliability practices, we regularly update our hardware - including servers - typically on a yearly basis. This is standard practice for us to ensure optimal performance and prevent hardware failures. However, SimLab’s support is now refusing to issue a new license key for the software I purchased when I upgrade my hardware.
Their stance is that the floating license server must remain on the same physical machine indefinitely. This seems at odds with modern IT practices where hardware updates are routine maintenance.
Has anyone else encountered this restriction with SimLab’s floating licenses?
