Shrinkwrap Failing to generate a surface

Hi everyone,

Im trying to generate a surface from a model, My aim was to close the front grill and wheel arches so that I can export it is a parasolid or step file into fusion 360 and Ansys later on. But the shrinkwrap model keeps failing to generate a mesh, even though it was previously working - right up unitl I got to the rear left wheel arch. A snip can be seen below of when I was halfway there closing up the wheel arches:

Im following the steps previously kindly given here: Generating a surface from polylines

Your file contains curves, a point cloud and points with duplicates.

I deleted the duplicate points and shrinkwrapped them. Works fine with these settings.

I would appreciate if you did not message me privately and create topics too. I think it would be better to create a topic and if no one replies within a few hours, maybe send a link to the topic to someone who helped you before. A message should contain a link to a topic unless the files shared are delicate.

My apologies, I didn’t mean to cause any inconvenience to you I was just trying to see if someone else may be able to help just in case you weren’t sure how to fix the error I was seeing. Would you please be able to upload the file which you deleted the duplicate points and shrinkwrapped them, as this is what I’m struggling to do. As mentioned I am new to Rhino and this file would help me a lot. That should effectively be the last thing I need for this project also. Would really appreciate if you could upload the file. And many thanks for all the help along the way and once again apologies for causing you any hassle.

Many thanks

Ahern

Thank you soo soo much Martin, I was unable to open the file you sent - as I only have rhino 8 not 9, however using what you said I was able to delete the duplicated and finally generate the surface again. Once again thanks soo much as I spent a lot of time to get to this stage.

Hello Everyone,

Would anyone please be able to help me close up the bottom of my model? Should be a quick easy job for someone who knows Rhino well - Unfortunately this is my first project on rhino.

For context I have already exported the file onto fusion 360 and CNC made the model and put it in a wind tunnel to get the aerodynamics of the model. I am now trying to simply close the bottom of the model so I can put it into Ansys fluent and run CFD. I had it closed up using Solidworks as seen below:

but Ansys keeps failing to open the file which is why I went back to Rhino where the file was originally. I understand closing the bottom of it on solidworks was rough and made it look like it was sitting on a platform but as long as its closed up I am more than happy.

Please don’t create two topics for the same issue.

One quick solution to cap the bottom is by manually drawing a section, extrude the section both sides wider than the car and then trim with a perimeter that you also draw manually.

I quadremeshed the bottom of the car before running shrinkwrap.

Please delete the other topic you started.

Thank you once again Martin, you have been extremely patient, understanding and helpful. I have understood what you have done and filled the gap using the cap myself. I will remove the other topic my apologies.
