Show only materials visible in scene/select materials of selected objects

Hi McNeel
This has been brought up before, but I just wanted to repeat the wish to have an option to show (in the material editor) only the materials currently visible in the scene. Currently have a restaurant interior with well over 150 unique materials, and navigating them all is both slow and cumbersome - especially since Rhino WIP seems to be slow as the number of materials go up.

It has been suggested to use tags, but currently that requires manually selecting (in the material editor) each material you want to tag. It would be better if I could just select eg. all the liqour bottle labels in the viewport and then have all those materials selected in the editor. So far they are just highlighted, but I can’t add/edit their combined tags unless I Shift/Ctrl select each material in turn.

And related: In the material editor it’s really a PIA that multiple selections “auto-center”. Say you have a long list of material, you select the bottom 3 and now want to add the top 3. For each of the top 3 materials, the list is centered and you have to scroll back to the top to keep on selecting the other two - frustrating!

Also - and this might be system specific - I’m getting a completely white material editor window as I select multiple materials (click+Ctrl), forcing me to select materials in small chunks. Notice how I’m forced to grab the scroll bar to force a refresh (after clicking in the material selection area, effectively unselecting my selection :grimacing:).

Anyone care to comment on this? It’s driving me insane (OK, more insane) :grimacing: It really makes scenes with many materials a hazzle!
