Short/micro edges problem

Hi @Adam_M

Many thanks for this, I was aware (and did comment) I was being a bit lazy by copying multiple streams, so i do agree your solution is much more elegant and efficient.

However I am doing this at work and dont have a great deal of time, so it was a bit of a quick and dirty solution.

Given all the help and interest you have shown. Im having one final (hopefully) issue, I’m generating a swept recessed handrail void and this is intended to make it into RhinoInsideRevit.

I’m getting an error to do with the geometry of the void created and wondered if it was obvious where the bad geometry is being created. I note that when trying to sweep the profiles I get an error, whereby a loft does work .

Also the landing extension pieces my original query regarded are appearing as seperate curves. I recall when these are joined they still retain their original underlying seperate geometry and these typically have to be rebuilt to become a single curve (the domain of the extension also becomes a negative value i thought)

The outer curve solid is cutting and migrating into Revit fine, I just think i need to be as clean and accurate as possible. Which seems to be quite your forte! Its unfortunate as the geometry is successfully being made in rhino.

If you have chance to review that would be much appreciated.

(As an aside I note in your definition you have used entwine - i have typically used merge when combining information, but it often combines in ways i dont realy want so often end up transforming data afterwards, so moving forward i will test entwine and merge when combining. I always enjoy looking at the variety of approaches (and elegance of some peoples definitions!)

Thanks again

In your definition, you didnt internalise the handrail profile, so it’s hard to say what the problem is.

Apologies @Adam_M , see attached i’ve opened this definition in a blank rhino file so shoudl work

Also as mentioned its tricky as the geometry is creating in rhino, i guess as mentioned itd be goo just to make as cleanly as possible and see if that works

Thanks again

I dont have a lot of time right now, but it looks like you are using the wrong rail/path here:

Should it not be Path+1 here, rather that i?

Also, is there a reason to have the profile remain vertical, rather than perpendicular to the rail?

Hi @Adam_M

Thanks again, yes path was incorrect, i hadnt saved. I’ve been dragged onto other things, but quickly came back to look at this, trying to rebuild the path curve and create as clean as possible geometry. I’ve amended the extended curve to pull the points and then interpolate again which looks like a vey clean and ordered set of points and Brep.

The definition is mentioning micro edges which I’m not how how to avoid creation of

When i bake then explode and delete the surfaces sequentially i can see some small surfaces are let, I’m not sure how to avoid the creation of these?

On handrail profile, made these vertical to ease the transitions (wanted a sharp corner without the small filleting. Could be perpendicular i suppose

Updated definition. I will make a matching query on the Rhino Inside Revit forum

Thanks again for all your help, if you dont have time, then dont worry, your help has alrady been great and educational!

The gh file is still missing a bunch of stuff that should be internalised. You can open the gh in an empty Rhino file to see what is missing.

Jeez! Sorry,

Tried with a blank file and is all appearing .

Thanks

Give this a go. I didnt really spend any time on it, so I’m not sure how clean the geometry is, but it might be helpful for you.

It has worked!

Incredible work, thanks again Adam. Very grateful for your persistence (and patience with non internalised gh files!)

Cheers!!!

Hey @Adam_M

No big rush, but had a chance to review the script and the changes. I’m intrigued to know more about why this has worked?

I note you have done a 2rail sweep with the path curves only offset vertically by 1. But the results are dramatically different.

I had previously thought a Sweep2 was used when the profile was changing along the length of the sweep.

I have connected up the same rail (1 of) and section curves and i’m just interested why the Sweep2 works the way it does?

Sweep 1

Sweep 2

2no path curves in parrallel with each other

Thanks

Hi all,

I’ve made a slight change to the design and i’m getting an error whereby the geometry is being created in Rhino but not converted to Revit.

I’ve internalised items and these have opened in a fresh file, so crossed fingers.

Could someone please have a review of the geometry to see where this is going wrong

The inner sweep is not being created

Thanks all
