Shelving units in a museum

Hi Team,

I am designing the shelves for a museum.Assume that i create a number of horizontal shelves of varying heights as show in fig.I would want to create a logic in such a way that when an object is placed in those shelves.That portion of shelving area should take the shape of the object placed.

What does your data look like? 3D shapes? Images? 2D outlines?

3D Shapes. David. Imagine a number 3D horizontal members like the line u see in the image.so when u place an object in the horizotal shelves a portion of shelving should take the shape of the object placed.
