Sharp corner surface creation problem

Hello Everyone,

I’ve been struggling with the creation of a specific kind of surface that we use a lot in our furniture design. We use a lot of shapes in our work that involve sharp creases that transition into smooth curves (think of the details in auto bodies). I’ve worked out some good strategies for dealing with this, except where one furniture part joins to another furniture part.

See in the images the kind of surface I’m trying to create, and the noted problem area. I always get little weird creases in this area, no matter if I use Sweeps, NetworkSrf, or other surface creation methods. It also doesn’t solve the problem to break the surface up into different chunks, though various methods can help.

How do I create a surface that is tight to the marked area, without the weird creases?

Best,

Tor

It’s impossible to model this form with a single surface. Could you upload a pic of the part? That way I’ll have a better idea on how to model it.

Hey Stratosfear,

“Impossible to model this form with a single surface.” Useful information…

I’m attaching a file showing what the part is supposed to look like when it’s finished, along with some comments hi-liting the problems I’ve been running into.

Thanks for your help,

Best,
