Shademode or Render settings for illustration

I try to set up a shade mode for results like this (combined screenshots + a bit PhotoShop):

The 1st obstacle is, the silhouette is in the interior too, but shall surround the object only.
2nd the arrow shall have a white border.
And and shall be displayed in front of other objects no matter what the real position in space is.

I tried by modifying the Pen mode, no luck with the silhouette.

The goal is to have a one-click-solution.
It’s about dozens and hundreds of pictures, not a few only.

I fear it’s not possible with a shade mode only.

Any ideas?

For this one, there is a setting in display modes to Draw locked objects behind all others. So if you lock all but the arrow, it may work.

I am not sure yet how to help with other items but maybe that’s a start.

Hi Charles - I would make the arrows from hatches and use draw order to force them to the front.
If your view is known and set, use MeshOutline to make the silhouette curve for that view.

@pascal

That is a very smart solution!
_MeshOutline does do the trick fine.

Many thanks Pascal!

That’s at least two Clicks Pascal, the request was for one click solution ; )

:index_pointing_at_the_viewer: What??? I was assuming you’d have a vbScript ready by now…

I think this a little different. Maybe easier but maybe not.

This is a copy of the “Rendered” display mode with surface edges set to 2 and after having run Silhouette.

There are a number of tricks that can be done. Here are a guide that explores some ideas: Advanced Rhino Display Modes [McNeel Wiki]
