The >> showing up when unwanted is logged in youtrack and is an issue with ETO predicting the size of the layout before its rendered.
As for the top image, the selection filter is designed to prefer single row up until about 60% of the width is gone and then it’ll switch to multirow. This was logic designed for Rhino 7 and 8 and might change depending on where the bar eventually ends up in Rhino 9.. Hopefully the bottom row.
