Selected nut then clicked layer icon BUT no layers appeared

selected the upper nut solid, then wanted to turn on layer palette so clicked the layer icon in toolbar that normally shows the layer palette and nothing happened, except choose layer options wording, in top window, with a long list of options to choose from, I didnt want any options, I just wanted the layer palette to appear !
and as I vehemently clicked that icon to get the layer palette to appear, that wording and list of options kept appearing.

I tried a few times, then deselected the nut, then clicked the layer icon, and after a second or two, the layer palette appeared.
the appearance of the palette IS SLUGGISH OR DOWN RIGHT REFUSING TO APPEAR.
never experienced that before with Rhino. in V5,

here is the nut and items made that are new to the trolley, copy paste them into the trolley you have at McNeel and test.

Hi Steve -

Does that mean that this is not something that you can reproduce when you start a new file from a factory-default template and create as simple box?
