Secure erasing an SSD free space. Is it even possible?

To the tech savvy in this forum: I have a tablet that cannot be opened without damage. It’s in perfect working condition, but in order to donate it or sell it, the SSD has to be erased.

Given what we know so far about SSD technology, is it even possible at all to secure erase at least the free disk space so no old files can be recovered with recovery tools ? … or is it, all our attempts will give us the illusion of erasing data, but the internal SSD wear leveling mechanisms will keep shifting the pointers to the data around like a whack-a-mole, as the erase utilities try to write ones and zeros ?

There are tools and apps to do this, so just google your make and model to see if one is available.
