it works for you? then what I am doing wrong? Here is a new simple file - the picture shows the layout, one dimension is on layout one in model space and then there is a surface, a rectangle and a text in layout-space:
this behaviour does not work on my end, but what would be really usefull would be the whole layout as you see it in 2d in the modelspace - thats the most used way of data exchange and what partners usually want. the fool-proof way would be to have this in addition to the behaviour you described, then it would tick all the boxes I think.
Even after some recent improvements, export as vector pdf and then import pdf to AutoCAD is still more reliable way to get Rhino layouts to AutoCAD model space, than VaExportToDwg export and then fiddling with “chspace” from layout to model space in AutoCad.
hey @MichalKrizo thank you for your input! I was watching those threads as well.. but still I thought maybe I was missing smth. because, the functionality with a created layout does not work for me, at least not when importing it back to rhino - maybe with autocad.. I can not try that.
thank you for your suggestion with pdf - I know of that procedure, and might have to use it after all..
Hi @Sebastian_Wimmer I can see a couple of differences between printing in PEN and in HIDDEN display mode, but maybe I’m missing other obvious details, or the problems you talk about. Let me know which ones they are.
This is what I’ve noticed:
Pen has a Silhouette attribute, which I am not sure if it has a print width you can control in a precise way. Hidden has not that attribute. But we could implment it in future versions. Is that what you wish?
Pen draws the edges between tangent surfaces. But it seems inconsistent depending on whether you are printing extrusions or polysurfaces. I made a quick test: PEN TEST.3dm (4.6 MB)
In Hidden display, all objects print the same (although tangent edges are ignored on extrusions. The VisualARQ column is created from an extrusion too). This is something we could review.
yes, I would say letting us chose what lines to show and thus giving options for more and controlling them is definitely the way!
zoomed out the pictures might look somewhat similar, but if you zoom into the hidden one, you can see a lot of loose lines and lines that don’t fit all over the place.
the section is also messed up
the pen-displaymode does not have this issue (true it has others) and looks much more cleaner, which is essential for me and I think most of the people. Yes it does not work with the DWG export you implemented, but the problem is - as we discussed, that that feature unfortunately does not fit the needs of many people anyways. a little bit sad, but let’s see what the future brings.
best regards,
sebowim
EDIT: sorry I am not allowed to send you this file - If i come along ones I can share, I will inform you.
+1 on the silhouette attribute.
It would be great if there was a possibility to control the min and max line weight based on a section style and the view depth of the section. So the items in silhouette closest to the section cut line were full silhouette thickness, but the items towards the back of the view depth were thinner.
