Scanned large topography-terrain mesh with for Ladybug analysis

Hi all,

Looking for advice on a mesh cleanup workflow for a Ladybug environmental analysis. Three meshes in the attached GH file:

  • Mesh A — precise terrain from surveyed contours. Intended analysis surface.
  • Mesh B — Mesh A thickened upward by roughly the grass height. Intended cutter.
  • Mesh C — drone-scanned mesh: ground + grass + trees.

I want Mesh C as shading context (for the canopies), but with the grass and ground layer removed so it doesn’t occlude Mesh A during radiation / sun-hour analysis.

I can’t just cut Mesh C with the plot outline projected vertically — canopies extend over the plot boundary and would get sliced. So the idea is to subtract Mesh B from Mesh C: keep everything above the thickened volume (canopies), remove everything inside it (grass, ground noise). Rhino’s built-in Mesh Boolean Difference is fragile at this scale.

A few things I’d really appreciate advice on:

  • Any general tips for working with Ladybug, especially at site scale?
  • Are drone-scanned meshes like this actually suitable input for a Ladybug simulation, or is it more reliable to remodel the whole context by hand to roughly match what the scan captured?
  • For drone-scan workflows in particular — is it better to work with a cleaned 3D terrain mesh, or with the raw point cloud + Dendro? What’s worked well for you as a workflow?

One more thing — the GH file with the meshes is around 155,791 KB, so I’m not sure how best to share it here. Any guidance on that would help too. Thanks!
