Hi,
How do you scale an object without scaling it’s dimensions? ie, expand one area of a drawing to show details, but keep it’s dimensions the same. I copy it, scale it up and then use text block to write the dimensions from the original onto the copied part. There must be a better way.
I have spent a couple of hours searching for this in Help and elsewhere. Where should I have looked?
Well, this is normally taken care of via a layout view, where you can scale the details… However MacRhino does not have layouts yet…
What you might be able to do as a workaround is to select all the dimensions and apply the inverse of your scale to them in the dimension style. For example if you scaled the object by 5, apply a scale of 0.2 to them. In Windows Rhino, you do this by going into dimension properties>property overrides>advanced and apply a “length factor” of the scale you want. However, I do not have my Mac with me today and I don’t know if this is possible on MacRhino.
If it is possible, just be careful - this type of maneuver is somewhat risky; if you re-scale the objects, you will need to reset the property overrides on the dimensions.
You can also manually simply override the dimension text and substitute your own - that means going in and manually changing each dimension to reflect the true measurement, but it’s probably faster than creating a text block.
ion, it reverts to what it was, but the item is still bigger. I want it to cover the scaled up distance, but read the unscaled dimension. Looks like altering the dimension is the best bet. How do I do this, please?
I have attached a screen shot. I have copied and expanded the end of the slotted shaft (and coloured it blue) to more easily see the dimensions of the slot. However, the dimensions have also increased by a factor of 3. The slot has become 30 wide x 474 wide. What I want it to look like is the red one at the bottom for which I had to do the dimensions manually
