Running Rhino 8 on a Mini PC

Hey All,

I need to set up an additional computer in our office/shop for my son to run Rhino and wanted to ask if you guys can recommend a modest 2-300.00 mini PC running Windows 11 Ive looked at the Minimum requirements on McNeel’s site and was hoping for some input and recommendations.

Amazon links welcome,

Thank you,

Bill

There is a sub-category specifically for Rhino for Windows Hardware:

Most posts will be about maximizing performance “bang for the buck”, but many posts have asked similar questions about balancing reasonable performance with low cost while not compromising too much reliability.

Good luck

You care about having decent CPU single core/thread performance (you probably aren’t going to do heavy multithread tasks like rendering…) and a decent GPU.
8GB ram minimum, at least 500GB drive ssd (nvme, M2 or at least sata… avoid emmc)
If it runs Windows 10 imo is a plus (instead of W11).

Mini PC usually have an “APU” (a CPU that also have inside an integrated graphic card, GPU) , a single chip that does everything.

Find a model, and use it to compare other models.
Google its cpu vs the other, like “intel twin lake n150 vs ryzen 5 5500u” and see the results about single core/tread performance (but of course, it better have 4 cores at least).

Then for the GPU part it’s more tricky: search for the specs of that CPU and read which integrated GPU it has.
Then you can try to google “this vs that” again or go here Integrated Laptop Graphics Card: Guide & Comparison Chart - Laptop Study - Find the cheapest & best laptop
