Rotate 3d behavior

I’m new to Rhino and trying to use rotate 3d. I can rotate an object on the xy plane but if I try to rotate something onto the z axis the object does not rotate. Rather the view of the perspective rotates. The same behavior is exhibited if rotating using the Gumball. Why is this happening?

I don’t know what is happening on your end, but rotating things with the Gumball doesn’t affect views in any way. Nor does Rotate3D. Maybe make a screenshot video of what you are doing and post it?

I just tried to move the object along the x axis using the Gumball in the perspective view. It did not move the object but just moved the whole view. It’s like the object is ‘glued’ on the xy axis. I’m very new to Rhino so really at a loss as to what’s going on.

Hi @John_Syre
You probably have AutoCPlane turned on, making it look as if the object is not moving, when in reality it is - the CPlane is just moving with it. That’s why it looks as if you’re moving the whole view.

Take a screenshot of the entire rhino window, not just the viewport / work area.
