Roof fails at low slope?

I’m creating a roof by curve. Nice tool, but it looks like if I go below 20d, the roof just disappears. I’m trying to create a very simple hip @ 4:12 (18.4), and I cannot; it won’t create the volume, or it disappears when lower the pitch to my desired amount (18.4). Oddly, when I switch to anything over 20 (e.g., 22.5=5:12), it creates it with ease. I hope this isn’t a limitation.

Please respond as soon as possible. I am in a production office and need to move along.

Thank you very much.

Bill

Hi @BillyCoopDraws please share a sample file where this error occurs.

Hey Francesc,

Like I said in my post, I needed to keep moving along, so I found a work-around by opening a new templated file, (visualarq imperial feet), and using the fresh template, the roof tool worked fine; no issues at all.

I started the mid-behaving model using the same template, so the glitch is a mystery to me.

Since I didn’t see feedback, at the time (I needed to keep moving), I just copied and pasted all my geometry from the glitching file, that was not a roof object, (walls, whatever else is in there), into the new file with the good roof, and now everything is fine and I am progressing without issue.

I did save a copy of the offending file, so if you wish to debug, or find the switch I potentially screwed up, do your best. Just understand it not only would not allow me to drop the pitch to 4:12 (18.4, via parameters panel, and at 5:12, it worked fine), but it also refused to change roof type from plumb, to square, etc.

Here is a link to my OneDrive, I’ll leave it up until you respond:

Let me know what you find out.

Thanks a million,

Bill

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the file. I’m glad you could follow up with your work after experiencing this issue.
After checking your file, I’ve seen that there are 14 overlapping roofs. This cause some intersection problems between roofs that try to intersect each other, and may cause some to disappear.
On the other hand, you had the Angle tolerance in your Document Properties set to 22.5 degrees:

I recommend starting a new document from a VisualARQ template, where all these settings are already adjusted to reasonable values, and you have also the object styles library available.

In any case, changing that angle to a minor value will let you set a smaller roof slope.

14? I guess if nothing else, that proves I’m persistent.

Interesting that angle snap settings would influence roof params, but I am fine with lower tolerances.

So Thank You.
