Roadmap up to date?

Hello! Quick question since you plan to release the VA3 wip shortly:

Is this page up to date?
DWG export for christmas?
Thanks!

Hi @Eugen,

I am not sure if it will be for christmas… but yes, we are working on having layouts exported to dwg

Ok, yes, that’s what the roadmap page suggests…
May I ask what it will be able to do? Elevation hatches/textures e.g.?
Any e.t.a.?
Thanks!

Hi @Eugen, all features marked as “In progress”, “In testing”, or “Completed” on the Roadmap page, will be likely available in VisualARQ 3.
Unfortunately, “Elevation hatches/textures” won’t. (You can use this resource meantime: Wall hatches in projection | Food4Rhino and Slab hatches in projection | Food4Rhino)
In a few weeks we plant to release the WIP version for the existing users, and the final version will be released some weeks/months after.

Hi Francesc,

I have a question about pricing and even just a vague answer is okay. Will it just be a separate upgrade, that is R8 and VARQ3, or does Asuni plan to package them together? When I bought R7 I believe I got the Asuni package at a slight discount compared to buying both separately. Not sure how that works for an upgrade though.

Hi @keithscadservices There will be a promotional price for VA 3 upgrade during some period, but I can’t tell you if there will be also an offer for the R8+VA3 upgrade package.

Care to elaborate a little more about the layout DWG exporter? How do you go about this problem?
I’m very curious about it, because this feature has been sorely missing in Rhino forever. An important puzzle piece for a better 2D/drafting/collaboration workflow.
(Not that DWG export is something particularly fancy or modern in the upcoming AI age, but I believe we still will need it for many years to come. Bread and butter.)

It basically means creating a 2D projection/conversion of the Detail views in layout space, then exporting it all as vectors, correct? Since you have your own projection engine in place (vaPlan/SectionView) - are you using it internally?
Will the ‘projected layout’ become a layout page of it’s own, or will it be transparent to the user and just export?
Do you somehow rely on the built in DWG exporter for this, or is it your custom implementation?

Anyhow, please be aware that exporting surface colors as hatches (even with textures) is very desirable. If you plan to support this, it would mean strengthening your ‘projection engine’ (Make2D on McNeels’s side) - something a bit diametral you the workflow you usually promote: don’t use vaSection/PlanView anymore (in model space), but rely on Details and your custom display modes.

Thanks!

Hi @Eugen,

This feature is in progress. It takes the objects in the Rhino layout to the dwg layout. If you are using the Hidden display mode inside the detail view, it creates a 2D vectorial projection of the objects in the model which are visible in the detail view to export this to the dwg model.

So, in the final dwg you will have your objects in 2D in the model and your detail views in the layout. Yes, we are using the dwg exporter and yes, we are using our own projection engine (vaPlan/Section view) internally as well.
