I’m interested in trying the Rhino8 WIP, specifically to test the Mesh Shrinkwrap feature.
Can someone explain a sensible way to start working with a WIP release?
Do you keep working on existing models in Rhino7 and use Rhino8 for new models? Do you just have 2 separate Rhino installs on your machine? Can installing Rhino8 mess up your Rhino7 install?
What happens when Rhino8 is released? Do you uninstall Rhino8 WIP?
Normally I can never afford to upgrade straight away so never bother with the WIP as its just frustrating to see what I won’t be able to afford but I hope to be able to upgrade on release so wondered about trying the mesh shrinkwrap feature.
No. That’s probably required by most that different versions have nothing shared.
Rhino7 saves in .3dm rhino 7 format, but you can also use older .3dm formats with SaveAs
Rhino WIP/Beta/8 saves in .3dm rhino 8 format by default! And also older, always with SaveAs.
You no longer will have access to Rhino WIP/Beta, so all your saved files in “.3dm 8” won’t be accessible to yourself and your Rhino 7.
(Sometime people ask here to devs or other users to convert new formats to older ones, but it’s unpractical in many aspects…)
Use Wip/Beta only for temp projects, and remember time to time to save also (like a backup) in .3dm rhino 7 format.
