Rhino8 Make2D AWFUL PERFORMANCE

I’ve recently upgraded to Rhino8 and find make2D abysmal for anything beyond very simple shapes.

I am trying it on a model just over 200mb which on Rhino7 I’d have no problem using make2d for. Yet on Rhino8 it has caused my entire computer to crash twice and I’ve yet to make it to 100% before performance grinds to a halt.

I have already purged the model, have looked at the make2D tips on here and also checked my nvidia control panel for rhino performance.

Many thanks if anyone has other advice…

can you send us the model with your system info to tech@mcneel.com and a link back to this topic please?

we are always looking for examples of stuff that fails so we can use it tune up our tools.

From other posts and a couple of tests here, it does seem that Make2D took a big performance hit in V8…

please send us files and systeminfo so we can figure out what happened and how to get it tuned up.

For example, this recent post…

If you want a simpler example, here’s one I just made:
1000_Cubes.zip (18.1 MB)

Use the view shown (Perspective ZEA), Make2D only that view, no tangent, hidden or scene silhouette, just Group checked.

Time to Make2D in V7: 1.3 - 1.35 sec.
Time to Make2D in V8: 3.8 - 4 sec.

3x longer!

With hidden lines and scene silhouette checked:
Time to Make2D in V7: 4.7 - 4.8 sec.
Time to Make2D in V8: 12.5 - 13 sec.

~2.7x longer…

It’s pretty much the case with anything you throw at it in V8.

Screenshots:
V7 - scene silhouette is incomplete, plus artifacts here and there

V8 - scene silhouette same more or less

But with a bunch of errors in the main visible curves

All in all pretty much true to the title of the thread…

thanks
